1. Objective & Requirement

Today, digital images are all around us by exploding on the internet. Thus, Digital image processing becomes an important research area covered by theoretical knowledge about the methods of still image and video manipulation. In this course, we will introduce the student to analytical tools and methods which are currently used in digital image processing as applied to image information for human viewing. The course will cover a series of basic image-processing problems including enhancement, segmentation, and etc..Students will gain understanding of algorithm design, mathematical tools, and practical implementations of various digital image applications.

2. Primary coverage

This is an introductory course presents the fundamentals of digital signal processing in processing grey-scale and color images. Simply put, digital image processing covers principles for processing 2-d signals is the study of any algorithm that takes an image as input and produces an image as output.

Topics include: Introduction and organization, physics of vision, resolution, impulse response,  Linear systems, matrix transformations, scaling, translation and rotations, Contrast and grey levels, histograms, Gaussian and other non-linear stretches, edge and line detector, fourier transforms and filtering of image data, mathematical morphology, and etc.
